If you're reading this, you are an Oppi survivor

Okay so, Laris here. Or at least, I’m in front of the computer. I’m not really here. Is anyone alive during the week after Oppi?

For those of us who are almost functioning today, let’s pull ourselves towards ourselves and look back at what went down this weekend.

We were all privileged enough to witness a festival like Oppikoppi. Incredible stages, incredible sound and a great lineup created a recipe for a party of note. Deftones. Yellowcard. Manchester Orchestra (holy mother of all things sacred). All these bands lived up to their expectations.

However, this year I made a point of watching a whole bunch of local bands and artists that I hadn’t seen before (and some that I’ve seen over and over). So I’d like to take this opportunity to mention a few bands and artists that should have your attention!

-          No Chocolate Before Dinner
These boys are lovely and we’ve been lucky enough to gig with them a few times. They put on a STELLAR show at Oppi. Brother Band, you did us proud <3

-          Beatenberg
Seriously, there’s something so welcoming and homey about the vocalist. Do yourselves a favour, and check these guys out.

-          Pestroy
They need no introduction. They played their 11th Oppi this year and did not disappoint. I literally could not take my eyes off of their drummer, Dylan. He’s a god.

-          Matthew Mole
Again, no introduction needed. This man has gone viral and with good reason.

-          Woodstock Mafia
Just check them out, for real.

-          Laurie Levine
I’d heard of her, but I’d never seen her live. For those of you who saw her unplugged at the Ray Ban Top Stage, you’ll share my view that the woman who played bass for her is pure talent. You rock, bass guitar lady.

I should actually be listing every single band that played at Oppi this year, but if I write a blog post 5000 words long, you guys won't like me very much!
In short: support your local bands, they need you… we need you.

Okay, now on to more serious business.  We at CMK have some exciting things happening for us in the next few months.

We have some gigs planned and we’d love to see you all there.

-          24 August – Rumours Lounge, Weltevreden Park

-          31 August – Sundowners, Alberton with none other than Desmond and the Tutus. This is a show you do NOT want to miss.

-          21– 24 September – Pink GirlFest, Magaliesburg. We’ll be sharing the stage with some of SA’s finest, including ISO, December Streets, Jack Parow and Holly and The Woods. Keep up to date by joining the Facebook event.

In other news, we’re in the running to play a slot at this year’s Pinkie Fest. This is where we as a band rely on you as our supporters to get us places. We need you to follow this link and comment “Colour Me Kacey because they’re the coolest people we know” in the comment box.

Okay, actually, we really only need the “Colour Me Kacey” bit and truth is… YOU guys are the coolest people we know.

That’s me for now. Write me letters in the comment box J
