Bio

kacey (ka·cey)
origin: Gaelic/Celtic
meaning: bravery/courage

In 2009, as a solo artist, Jess received a SAMA nomination for her debut album Shout, in the category for Best English Pop Album. After this, she changed direction and pursued her true passion by fronting the all-girl, hard rock band Saving Insanity, alongside Kelly and Nicole.

In 2012, a year after Saving Insanity separated, Kelly and Nicole's desire to get music back into their lives was ignite...d and they approached Jess with the prospects of forming a new all-girl rock band, marking the beginning of Colour Me Kacey. Candice and Zanne, who happened to audition on the same night, completed our five-piece group.

We worked on original material and played a few shows together before Zanne left the band in order to pursue her music career. Larissa, a friend of Kelly and Nicole, joined as our drummer in January 2013.

In June 2014, after an incredible journey with the band, Nicole made a bold decision to leave the country and move to the USA. After months of auditioning for a bassist, we came across Monica, who studied at COPA and majored in bass guitar. She officially joined us in August 2014.

The idea behind the inception of CMK was to find the perfect mix of female musicians with the ability to create an addictive sound that would stand out in the SA music scene. We have created this distinctive sound by combining our rock, hardcore and indie influences into a somewhat more melodic hybrid of the three.

Our mission is to fuel our passion for music, to stay true to what we love, and to advocate for the often underrated abilities of female musicians as a whole. The aspects that contribute to the essence of CMK are determination, inescapable passion, a perpetual desire for improvement, a sense of spontaneity and the utmost amount of respect.
